About the project

About the project

Set on a lot that houses the main residence and three villas with independent entrances, Villa Al Garhoud stands as an architectural expression of unity and strength. The challenging task of creating a single, cohesive facade for distinct volumes was masterfully achieved, transforming the program’s diversity into a harmonious and integrated visual composition. Inspired by the meaning of the word “Garhoud”—which refers to foundation, support, and structure—the project evokes the concept of foundation and unity. The house is organized around a central living space, a sort of symbolic anchor where family bonds are strengthened. This core reinforces the sense of belonging and connection among the residents. Materiality plays an essential role in the architectural narrative. The natural stone used on the façade symbolizes solidity and timeless stability. Continuous horizontal elements reinforce the sense of fluidity and movement, creating visual connections between the volumes. The generous openings frame iconic views, such as that of the Burj Khalifa, establishing a dialogue between the interior and the exterior. The mashrabiyas, crafted from wooden slats, serve a dual purpose: cultural and functional. They ensure privacy and thermal comfort while reinforcing the symbolism of structure and support that permeates the Garhoud concept. The result is architecture that balances tradition and modernity, uniting aesthetics and function in a design deeply rooted in context and local sensibilities.
